the gardens of Venice

Ruskin refers to the 'gardens of Venice on the Lido side' which are presumably the Giardini Garibaldi, now part of the Giardini Pubblici which also include the modern Biennale Gardens. The Giardini Garibaldi were laid out by Gian Antonio Selva in 1808-12. They lie at the Eastern end of Venice, facing the Lido.
