Rousseau's island

The reference is in an extract from Ruskin 's diary at Geneva in 1846. Ruskin claimed for himself a resemblance with Rousseau. He wrote to his father in 1862 that he grouped himself with Rousseau by judging 'the Nouvelle Heloise, the Confessions, the writing on Politics, and the life in the Ile St. Pierre' ( Works, 18.lxii). Rousseau had fled to the Isle Saint-Pierre on Bernese territory in 1765.
