Among the scenes from the life of Moses on the font of the church of San Frediano at Lucca is the crossing of the Red Sea by Moses (Exodus 14: 19-31). The waters of the Red Sea parted to allow the Israelites to cross on their way to the Promised Land. When the Egyptians attempted to follow them the waters returned and the Egyptian army was drowned. The crossing was seen as a symbol of Christian baptism, and so was particularly appropriate for a font.
