A town in the Faucigny district of Savoy, Bonneville is located on the Arve River. Ruskin visits to Bonneville included those made in 1835, 1858, 1859,1860, 1861, 1862, 1863 and 1882. Ruskin recalls the time during which he lived in Savoy in the years 1860-63, when describing Turner 's depiction of the Alps from Bonneville ( Works, 13.419). He negotiated to buy land and build above Bonneville in 1863. This plan was not realised.
