Pathetic fallacy is a term coined by Ruskin indicating the tendency of writers and artists to invest the natural world or material objects with their own emotions and thoughts ( Works, 5.201-220). Ruskin ranked Shakespeare as one of the 'first' or 'creative' order of poets who do not fall prey to this fallacy, but, instead, accurately reflect, as in a mirror, the essence of the world.
