Pieter van der Merwe suggests that the Castle of Ischia referred to by Ruskin is the 1841 version for which 'James Loyd paid 640 guineas in 1845, four years after it was exhibited at the Royal Academy' (see van der Merwe et. al, The Spectacular Career of Clarkson Stanfield 1793-1867 p.35). The full title was The Castle of Ischia (Castello d' Ischia) from the Mole. Sold at Sotheby's 28 November 1945; current whereabouts unknown.
Cook and Wedderburn note: 'Stanfield exhibited at the Academy two pictures of this subject:-"Castello d'Ischia," No. 9 in 1841; "The Castle of Ischia," No. 192 in 1843' ( Works, 3.227).
