Sir Charles Lock Eastlake PRA (1793-1865). Artist, author and administrator. Pupil of Haydon. Worked in Italy 1817-30. President of the Royal Academy, 1850 and Director of the National Gallery 1855. Eastlake held both posts until his death at Pisa in 1865. Married Elizabeth Rigby in 1849. Lady Eastlake was a German speaker, influential art critic and an opponent of Ruskin.
