New Society of Painters in Water-Colours founded in 1832 to rival the Old Water-Colour Society. It became the Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 1863. Following discussions, the Old Water-Colour Society declined to amalgamate with it in 1882, but it was joined by several members of the Dudley Society in the same year. In 1884 it became the Royal Institute.
