Stanfield and Turner

Turner is said to have been annoyed by the Marquis of Landsdowne's commission, given to Stanfield in the early 1830s, to paint pictures of Venice for the dining room at Bowood. By the end of the decade, however, 'they were often together' ( Gage, Turner Correspondence p. 286). Stanfield was influenced by Turner and respected his opinions highly.
