Stanfield's Borromean Islands

Cook and Wedderburn state that:

Stanfield's drawing of the Isola Bella and the St Gothard was the vignette on the title page of Heath's Picturesque Annual for 1832 ("Travelling Sketches in North Italy, Tyrol, and the Rhine," with twenty-six plates after drawings by Stanfield) ( Works, 3.440).

Heath's Picturesque Annuals produced for the period 1832 to 1834 are illustrated by Stanfield alone. The 1832 plates were the result of a tour in 1830 through Holland, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and North Italy. ( see, van der Merwe et. al, The Spectacular Career of Clarkson Stanfield 1793-1867 p.117).
