Leonardo's finish

The seeming paradox of referring to the 'finish' of Leonardo da Vinci, a painter who rarely finished his paintings is explained at Works, 4.138 where Ruskin distinguishes between 'finish' and leaving something 'unfinished' and at Works, 5.166 and Works, 5.167 where Ruskin refers to Leonardo's finish in terms of work which is 'tender in execution' and 'complete in detail'.
