Sunset with a Shepherd and his Flock

Sunset Landscape with a Shepherd and his Flock

By Permission of the Trustees of Dulwich Picture Gallery

Sunset with a Shepherd and his Flock (oil on canvas, 107.6 x 158.1 cm) entered Dulwich Gallery in 1811 as part of the Bourgeois Bequest (No. 175, renumbered No. 132 in 1892). It was believed to be a work by Rubens himself until 1880, when it began to be considered as a copy. Then in 1966, Michael Jaffé attributed it to Anthony Van Dyck (see Jaffé, 'A Landscape by Rubens, and another by Van Dyck', 1966).
