This position was initially held by David Carroll (who, along with Dominic Tye, completed the bulk of the collations, see Collations Team). David unfortunately had to retire due to ill health in 1998. The post was taken over by the then Lead Investigator, Michael Wheeler, who held this post until January 2000 when he moved on to new academic commitments (whilst retaining his role as Consultant Manuscript Editor). The role of Consultant Textual Editor was then assumed by the third Lead Investigator, Keith Hanley, in January 2000.
