Our Research

We investigate the basic cellular and physiological mechanisms underpinning disease to tackle global health issues

Core areas

Our research groups work with colleagues in the rest of the Faculty of Health and Medicine to address the Faculty’s core interdisciplinary research themes of Ageing, End of Life and Cancer, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Cancer, Infectious Diseases, Mental Health and Public Health.

The nature of these challenges mean that our researchers work with other University departments, national and global partners, businesses, governments and non-governmental organisations.

Sources of funding for research in the Division include research councils (e.g. BBSRC, MRC, ESRC), charities (e.g. Wellcome Trust, North West Cancer Research, Alzheimer's Society) and industry (e.g. Boots, GSK, Renshaw, Novartis).

You're very welcome to discuss your interest in research projects with potential supervisors. Though you may already have ideas for a research proposal, the most successful will be defined by your subject strength and knowledge.
