Hub Zwart

Hub Zwart (Geleen, 1960), Full professor of philosophy at the Faculty of Science, Radboud University Nijmegen; Chair of the Department of Philosophy & Science Studies; Director of the Centre for Society & Genomics (CSG); Director of the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society (ISIS). He studied philosophy and psychology at the Radboud University Nijmegen (RU, formerly KUN), worked as a research associate at the Institute for Bioethics at Maastricht (1988 - 1992), defended his thesis in 1993 (cum laude), was subsequently appointed as research director at the Center for Ethics at RU (1993 - 1998). In 2000 he became professor of philosophy at the Faculty of Science.

He has worked on epistemological and ethical issues involved in psychology and psychoanalysis, medicine and medical ethics, biology and environmental science. He had a special interest in epistemology and ethics of animal research and the philosophy of landscape; in terms of author studies he has written on Michel Foucault and others; he was European director of the international student exchange program Coastal Inquiries.

At present he is interested in comparative epistemology (critical assessment of different forms of knowledge concerning landscapes, animals and plants, scientific and otherwise); genomics and imagination and the methodology of applied philosophy.
