Having problems connecting?

Here's a checklist of things to try:

Accordion

  • Check the username you are using

When prompted for your username, make sure you are adding '@lancaster.ac.uk' to the end.

You need to enter your username in the format yourusername@lancaster.ac.uk

Note that this is not your University email address!

  • Check your password is working

Can you use this username and password to log in to the Student portal or other IT Services?

    • Try connecting to www.lancaster.ac.uk/myaccount. If you can log in and view your account details then your University IT account is OK.
    • If you have forgotten your password you will need to ‘reset your password’ first
    • Make sure your device hasn't automatically stored an old password. When prompted, make sure you type in your password manually.
  • Check your DNS settings

Check to see if your are using a manual DNS on your device.

It needs to be set to automatic for eduroam to work.

You can find out how to check DNS settings in the 'Find device information' page in Answers.

  • Forget old networks

If at any stage you make lots of device setting changes - or if you have previously connected to eduroam from another University - try 'forgetting' the network and start the install again from the beginning.

    1. Launch the Settings app.
    2. Tap Wi-Fi.
    3. Tap the info button next to the Wi-Fi network you want to forget.
    4. Tap Forget This Network.
    5. Tap Forget when prompted to confirm you want to forget the network.

Then start the instructions above to reconnect, taking care to check the certificate.

  • Check date/time and region/location

If the date and time setting are not set to the current UK time - or your region/location settings are incorrect then eduroam may not be able to connect

  • Browser settings / extensions or anti-virus software

Check that there aren't any settings which might be blocking the network settings. Some applications, such as antivirus software also have firewalls that can restrict network settings.

Try temporarily disabling anything that might be stopping the connection to eduroam(remember to re-enable them afterwards).

If you make changes, try 'forgetting' the wi-fi network first before attempting to connect again.

  • Remove old eduroam profiles

If you previously connected to eduroam at another college or university, and installed a profile on your phone, then simply 'forgetting' the network might not be enough.

To delete an old profile, go to Settings > General> Profiles

Click on the old school/college/eduroam profile and select Delete (you will probably need to enter your passcode at some point).

Then try following the connection instructions above again.

  • Try using the eduroam CAT installer for iOS

On the device you want to connect:

    • Browse to cat.eduroam.org
    • Click on link to 'Download your eduroam installer'
    • Once dowloaded, open the installer

    When prompted...

    • search for the University of Lancaster config profile
    • enter your Lancaster username and password (remembering to add @lancaster.ac.uk to the end of your username)
