The 2020 Institute Of Physics Awards
IOP Awards
Nominations for the Institute of Physics (IOP) awards are now open and the closing date is Monday, 13 January 2020. Last year the IOP introduced a new Technician Award and, more recently, introduced two new awards to recognise the contribution of apprentices and employers of apprentices, the Apprentice Award and Apprenticeship Employer Award.
Do you know someone whose contribution to physics should be recognised with an IOP award? For the Apprentice and Technician Award, individuals must be nominated by another individual but for the Apprenticeship Employer Awards companies may nominate themselves. The IOP awards celebrate outstanding achievements in physics and by physicists across the UK and Ireland, including researchers, technicians, apprentices, business innovators and teachers.
The IOP would be grateful if you could share this news within your institutions and with your networks and relevant contacts. More information about all their awards and how to submit a nomination can be found on the IOP website.
Honorary Fellowships for Technicians
As part of their aim to raise the professional status of technicians, and to recognise and celebrate their contribution to physics, the IOP are encouraging nominations for Honorary Fellowship for outstanding technicians. An Honorary Fellowship is the highest accolade presented by the Institute of Physics to reflect an individual’s exceptional services to physics. I'm sure you'll agree that this is a fantastic development for our community.
Technician Skills Development Grant
Grants of up to £7000 are available to support technicians working in all sectors to undertake short to mid-term visits to organisations overseas or within their current country of residence, with the aim of developing skills to support their career progression.
