French graphic novelist and critic Benoît Peeters, recently led two interactive seminars with DeLC final year students. As part of the module ‘Translation as a Cultural Practice’, Benoît Peeters worked with students on how graphic novels are translated and what happens when Tintin meets Japanese manga. In his seminar for students on the module ‘Mirrors across Media: Reflexivity in Literature, Film, Comics and Video Games’, he talked about metacomics within the history of comics. This involved looking at how the medium has reflected on its own nature from the mid-19th century through to the modern day.

Benoît Peeters is Visiting Professor in Graphic Fiction and Comic Art at Lancaster University.
