German tops the league table, with French and Spanish close behind in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019 has just delivered the latest round of commendations for the university and for our subject area in particular.

Lancaster has been ranked 6th place overall (which puts it in the top ten positions in all of the UK’s major university league tables).

Many subjects at Lancaster are ranked in the top ten. DeLC in particular has been very successful again: German is ranked 1st in the UK, and French and Spanish are ranked in 2nd position. Lancaster University is also in the Top 3 for graduate employment.

Head of Department, Olga Gomez-Cash, commented 'On the one hand, this ranking seems to indicate that what the department is doing well is delivering an outstanding student experience in French and German backed up with an equally outstanding research record across the department, as well as excellent graduate prospects for students in French and Spanish. That is a real cause for celebration and I’m very proud of what we achieve as a department. What really allows us the high rankings though is a consistently good performance across all the elements measured by this guide. For the students already on our programmes and indeed anyone applying to Lancaster to study languages, they can be assured that their education is in safe hands.'

With Languages being so easily combinable within joint degree schemes, students of many other subjects at Lancaster can, and do, access top-quality language learning as part of their degree, too.
