In September 2020, Dr Charlotte Baker was invited to join an Advisory Group to the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD).

Dr Baker has a long-standing research interest in disability in African contexts, with a particular focus on understandings and cultural representations of the genetic condition albinism.

She is currently leading the AHRC research project ‘Alternative Explanations: Disability and Inclusion in Africa’ with Dr Elvis Imafidon (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London) and partners at the Université de Yaoundé 1, Cameroon, the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
