Staff and students in Languages and Culture regularly stage events and undertake activities that take their university work and expertise beyond the academy and into local, regional and national contexts. Engagement and Outreach can involve working with businesses, public authorities, or other educational institutions, for example in the secondary and primary education sectors.

    The Confucius Institute offer credit-bearing Mandarin language and culture classes to students and offers language and culture courses to local schools, communities and businesses.

Community engagement

  • Light up Lancaster

    A family-friendly trail of discovery and enjoy the transformation of the city into a magical installation of light. Catch free performances dotted among secret squares and well-known buildings, and experience captivating light projections, amazing performances, music, dance, film and fireworks.

  • Campus in the city

    Campus in the city is an initiative by Lancaster University which aims at bringing local people, academics and students together through exciting, fun and educational activities for all ages.
