How to apply

Applications for full-time courses must be made through UCAS.

Typical entry requirements 

  • UCAS Tariff: 320-340 pts
  • A-levels: AAB /ABB. We normally expect entrants to have three A-levels or equivalent. AS-levels or vocational A levels are accepted alongside two A-levels.
  • IB Diploma: 32-35 pts overall with 16 from 3 HL subjects
  • Scottish Highers: ABBBB/BBBBB
  • Irish Leaving Cert: Offers will be made on the basis of 5 or 6 HL subjects
  • IELTS: 6.5 overall

Required subjects

The relevant language unless this is to be studied from beginners’ level, in which case applicants should have evidence of language-learning ability (e.g. an AS, A-level or GCSE grade A in another foreign language). Students taking two or more languages may take one of them, but not normally two, at intensive level.

Mature students

We welcome students with non-standard qualifications. Please contact the Admissions Coordinator for advice.

Financial support

The University offers Bursaries and Academic Scholarships to UK applicants.

The Lancaster University Bursaries are paid in addition to statutory bursaries and are triggered by information received from the Student Loan Company.

The University has made up to £400,000 worth of Academic Scholarships available to successful UK applicants. All UK students who put Lancaster University down as their first choice and who achieve the grades required (which will be higher than the grades required for admission to the degree scheme concerned) will automatically receive an Academic Scholarship of £1000 per year towards maintenance support.
