DeLC336: Sex, Violence and Identity in International Crime Narratives

This course takes a thematic and geographical approach to crime narratives in the Americas and Europe. It investigates crime narratives in order to ask why such a topic is significant within popular culture on both a local and a global level. The module investigates the status of women, sex, violence, identity, nationhood and genre through the exploration of various narratives involving criminal activity. The module explores why and to what ends crime is so frequently interpreted into literature and film through the examination of the individual societies at hand and close textual/filmic analysis.
