CEEDS Seminar: Environmental monitoring from space: embracing the era of pervasive Earth Observation. 25 November 2:00 - 3:30pm

Following the successful format of previous seminars, we are pleased to announce that Mal McMillan (LU) and Clare Rowland (UKCEH)will lead a seminar on “Environmental monitoring from space: embracing the era of pervasive Earth Observation”. This seminar will explore the current move towards the widespread use of Earth Observation in environmental science, and the role that data science can play in this transition. The talks will provide insight into how EO data are being increasingly used across a diverse range of applications, and a flavour of the different data streams and analysis platforms at the environmental scientist’s disposal. After the talks there will be a panel discussion on the use of EO in Environmental Monitoring, and on how CEEDS can support the greater exploitation of satellite datasets within the community.

• Chris Marston (UKCEH): Google Earth Engine: The new ‘buzz’ in mosquito modelling.

• Jade Bowling (Lancaster University):The changing Arctic: The power of using high-resolution ArcticDEM to monitor topography and ice/land surface change.

• France Gerard (UKCEH): Remote sensing of vegetation leaf phenology: seasonality, synchronicity and leaf age in the tropics and sub-tropics.

• Alex Bush (Lancaster University): Remotely Sensing Riverscapes: what can be done?
