Lancaster is one of the best places in the country, and top in the North West, to study Biosciences, Geography & Environmental Studies.

Geography & Environmental Studies came 2nd in the UK for the career success of its graduates six months after graduating.

As well as career prospects, the Guardian University League Table evaluates universities based on: course satisfaction; teaching quality; feedback; staff-student ratio; spend per student; average entry tariff; a value-added score that compares students’ degree results with their entry qualifications; and continuation rate.

The successful degrees include Biology, Ecology & Conservation, Physical and Human Geography and Environmental & Earth Sciences.

Lancaster University as a whole is ranked joint seventh in the Guardian tables, published on Friday 7 June 2019.

Professor Philip Barker, director of the Lancaster Environment Centre, said: “The disciplines of Geography, Environmental Science and Bioscience are now widely recognised as fundamental to addressing societal problems, shaping green agendas and caring for people and the planet. So being ranked as one of the very best centres for teaching and research in these fields is fantastic and brings with it responsibility to deliver solutions.

“We are proud of our achievements captured by the data in these tables and look forward to addressing the challenges ahead.”

The latest ranking builds on recent successes in other national and international league tables, including the Complete University Guide 2020, in which Lancaster is ranked eighth for Geography & Environmental Science and the 2019 Times Good University Guide which ranked Lancaster Biological Sciences 5th in the UK. Environmental Science is ranked in the global top 100 in the QS World Rankings.
