{"id":2694,"date":"2012-10-30T14:18:05","date_gmt":"2012-10-30T14:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/lec\/sites\/catchmentchange\/?p=2694"},"modified":"2018-12-16T17:55:55","modified_gmt":"2018-12-16T17:55:55","slug":"groundwater-dependent-ecosystems-call-for-abstracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/lec\/sites\/catchmentchange\/news\/groundwater-dependent-ecosystems-call-for-abstracts\/","title":{"rendered":"Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems Call for Abstracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Wednesday 27th\u00a0February\u00a02013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Birmingham and Midland Institute<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Hydrological Group of the\u00a0Geological\u00a0Society\u00a0is\u00a0convening a one-day meeting on the subject of\u00a0Groundwater\u00a0Dependent\u00a0Ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>Groundwater dependent ecosystems (GDEs) face multiple pressures related to public\u00a0water supply, intensive agricultural land-use and land management practices, and\u00a0pollution from industrial and household waste. Since the implementation of the Water\u00a0Framework Directive significant effort has been put into characterising GDEs and\u00a0assessing the threats to them. However, these threats may change under future\u00a0environmental change.<\/p>\n<p>This meeting will aim to present current scientific research in addition to addressing\u00a0issues around characterisation, conceptualisation, monitoring, modelling, and\u00a0management within the context of environmental change. Abstracts are welcomed for\u00a0oral presentations or posters, which consider any of these aspects.
