I am the Learning Developer for the Faculty of Science and Technology. My role is to provide additional study support to all students within the Faculty. The support aims to enable students to reach their full potential through effective study practices by developing their scientific writing, effective reading, citation and critical thinking, and with international students on their use of language and grammar.

I also work with students on a range of study issues, such as time management, motivation, revision techniques and also Specific Learning Difficulties in relation to study. I deliver scientific writing courses and writing groups, departmental workshops, 1-to-1 consultations as well as providing online resources. I work closely with departments to embed academic skills teaching into the curriculum.

I completed my PhD (Linguistics) in 2014 and draw upon my academic writing research background in my teaching. I received a Teaching Prize in 2007.

Working within the Faculty of Science and Technology I can support students and researchers in developing their information literacy skills. This can include assistance with effective database searching, carrying out a literature review, accessing subject-specific resources and using RefWorks, a reference management database.

I work with academic staff to create and maintain online resource lists and develop print and electronic collections to support teaching and research across subject disciplines in FST.

I have postgraduate qualifications in Academic Practice, Information and Library Management and Working with individual on the autism spectrum. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. I have an interest in supporting students in the transition into Higher Education and in technology enhanced learning.

I work with students across the university to help them develop their English for academic study.

I offer one-to-one consultations with students to discuss their academic writing, and contribute to the ‘become a better writer’ series of workshops held in the library. I am also involved in developing a programme of social events, as a further opportunity for postgraduate students to develop their English whilst at Lancaster.

I am part of the Learning Developer Team for FST and work with students to help reach their full potential as independent and effective learners.

I offer 1-to-1 consultations to develop scientific writing skills and effective study practices as well as delivering scientific writing courses and embedded departmental workshops. Students can also be referred by their department, tutor, college, LUSU or Student Based Services.

My role is to develop and coordinate maths and stats support provision across the University.

I work together with a team of experienced tutors, helping students to develop their maths knowledge by delivering tailored, structured and efficient support services. 

The range of activities provided by me and my team include embedded workshops (Engineering, Physics, Maths), one-to-one tutorials, generic workshops on basic maths and statistics, revision workshops and maths boot camps. I also oversee the running of the MASH centre in LUMS.
