Borrowing and Renewing
Your University Card
Please make sure you have your University card with you. You will need it to enter the building and for checking out items at the self-service points.
Lost your University card?
Lancaster University students and staff can obtain a replacement card by visiting the online store.
External and Alumni borrowers
At this stage, External Borrowers and Alumni will not be able to borrow books, but will have the option to return items via the self-return chute. We are continuously reviewing our access options, so please check back on this page for updates.

* All loans will be automatically renewed unless the resource is requested by another patron.
You can return your items:
- at a self-service point.
- through the book return chute outside the main entrance
- by post to The Library, Lancaster University, Lancaster, LA1 4YH. Please obtain proof of postage.
Items loaned by University students and staff are automatically renewed unless requested by someone else. We will contact students to request the return of books on loan prior to the end of their studies.
You cannot renew recalled items. Items that have been requested will be recalled and you will be asked to return the book within seven days*.
*This may vary during holidays and University closures and so please refer to the email you receive for the specific dates.
