A fascinating insight into life in the trenches during the Great War.

John Welch was a solicitor from Lancaster who served in the Kings Own Royal Regiment in World War I. His family kept over 600 letters from him to various family members during and shortly after World War I. These letters have been digitised by Lancaster Library and transcribed by his granddaughter Catharine Gill. They include his training in 1915, letters from France and his hospitalisation in 1916, letters from France in 1917 and 1918, various times on leave and his service in the Field Service Corps in 1919.
