Event Details

Four presenters representing different backgrounds and Christian traditions will share perspectives on exploring the links between Lancaster's links to transatlantic slavery and Christianity.

This event will be chaired by Father Rogers Govender, Dean of Manchester Cathedral, who will give a short address and introduce each speaker.

Ann Morgan, Lancaster Quakers, kicks off the talks with ‘Lancaster Quakers - A Discomforting History’ followed by two Lancaster University academics: Revd Canon Dr Anderson Jeremiah will speak about ‘Providential Empires and Transatlantic Slavery’ and Dr Sunita Abraham presents ‘Transatlantic Slavery and Christianity: Findings from Lancaster Black History Group's Community Research Project’. The Vicar of Lancaster, Revd Leah Vasey-Saunders, rounds off the presentations with ‘Lancaster Priory - Our legacy of slavery’. Father Rogers Govender will take audience questions for the speakers at the end.
