New study option in language testing
From September, a new option for studying language testing is available for postgraduate students. The Postgraduate Certificate in Language Testing by Distance (PgCertLTD) is a one-year qualification, providing a solid foundation in language test design, construction, and evaluation. The programme is delivered online and is part time, making it suitable for professionals around the world with current or anticipated involvement in language testing and evaluation at institutional, regional or national level.
The new programme option comprises the first three modules of Lancaster’s long-running MA in Language Testing by Distance, which has an excellent reputation and attracts students in many countries. The PgCertLTD will appeal to students who want to develop their knowledge and skills in language testing but are perhaps unable to commit to a longer period of study or to a dissertation project. We encourage applications now from those wishing to start the PgCert or MA in Language Testing by Distance programmes in September 2020.
Students who are successful on Lancaster’s PgCertLTD programme can transfer easily to the second year of the MA programme. Graduates holding the PgCertLTD qualification may apply to complete the full MA programme.
Lancaster University has a long history of excellent teaching and research in the field of language testing and assessment. Several students from our MA programme have won international awards for their dissertations. Some have gone on to complete doctoral studies in the field. Lancaster alumni are involved in test development and research projects at educational, commercial, and non-profit organisations, including testing boards, publishers, government ministries, schools, colleges and universities.
