Members of this research group contribute to the cross-faculty research theme on Ageing.
This research group performs basic and clinical research on a range of musculoskeletal diseases including osteoarthritis, alkaptonuria and ankylosing spondylitis.
Researchers working in this area, together with a short description of their research interests, are listed below.
- Professor John Goodacre: Acoustic emission as an assessment tool and biomarker for knee osteoarthritis; life course studies in ankylosing spondylitis; also Director of the Lancaster Health Hub and performs several other leadership roles
- Dr Chris Gaffney: Muscle metabolism in humans and C. elegans including research into type II diabetes, ageing, spaceflight, and exercise.
- Dr Jemma Kerns: Developing spectroscopic techniques (Raman and IR) for biomedical exploration and diagnosis, particularly relating to bone biology
- Dr Adam Taylor: Pathogenesis of the rare bone disease alkaptonuria
