Uncertainty, Complexity and Continuity: Organisations, Work and Technology in 2020 and Beyond

The first two decades of the twenty-first century have been defined by uncertainty, complexity and continuity. With the rise of the internet and the digital economy, and the development of Artificial Intelligence and the platform economy, there are growing implications for the business models of organisations and the future role of workers.

During this time, the role of managers, workers, unions and educators has been permeated by new challenges and opportunities. There have also been some persistent issues such as those associated with inequality, workplace relations and the digital divide.

This conference marks the 50th anniversary of the Department of Organisation, Work and Technology. The event will provide an opportunity to reflect on key challenges such as:

• What has this meant, and what does it continue to mean for organisations, as employers and the engines of the economy?
• How have workers experienced this period, and what are the pressing challenges of today and the next decade?
• How has technology contributed to and been affected by uncertainty and complexity, and how will it respond to, sustain or provoke such issues in the future?

The conference will provide time to pause and reflect on past, present and future developments and their implications for us within the roles we play in society.

The day will be organised around a series of interactive panel discussions enabling attendees to introduce and discuss their personal experiences.

You will hear from industry-leading experts and be able to contribute to new conversations about the challenges, opportunities and approaches needed as we enter 2020 and beyond.
