Lancaster project empowers Early Career Researchers in sustainable development bids

A group of early career researchers sat at desks and stood in front of a whiteboard in a seminar room as part of a research grant writing event.

Early career researchers gained valuable insight into developing grant proposals for sustainable development projects through a Lancaster University Management School initiative.

The LUMS Research Incentive Fund supported a virtual symposium and a roundtable for international researchers as part of the Creating Frameworks for Sustainable Development (CFSD) project.

The CFSD project aims to promote grant writing skills amongst doctoral and early career researchers that will ultimately lead to developing grant applications targeted towards addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Through a range of interdisciplinary approaches, the events encouraged participants to work with experienced researchers in creating novel problem-solving initiatives.

The Department of Entrepreneurship and Strategy (ENST) hosted both events, with outgoing and incoming Heads of Department – Professors Magnus George and Lola Dada – involved in welcoming the researchers and leading the activities.

Among those involved, Dr Akanimo Odon (Africa Strategy Adviser at Lancaster University and CEO of Envirofly Consulting UK Limited) facilitated events and engagement across a vast network, and Dr Joana Zozimo (LUMS Senior Researcher) led a session on ‘Dos and Don’ts in writing successful grants’.

Dr Zozimo, who is involved in CFSD, said: “We look forward to continuing our great work through co-creation of collaborative proposals targeted toward attracting grants to deliver impactful projects that can tackle global challenges.”
