Lancaster University Management School students provided valuable insight to a global defence company to help them develop their strategies to recruit the next generation of talent.

Postgraduate students on the MSc Management course worked with course alumni at BAE Systems to create a marketing plan to shape the multinational defence, security, and aerospace company’s graduate recruitment and social media strategy.

Briefed to outline ‘How BAE Systems can improve their digital/online presence in order to attract more talent for their Graduate Programmes’, the LUMS students impressed BAE with the knowledge and skills picked up on the world-ranked Masters course.

MSc Management Programme Director Dr Radka Newton said: “One of the key reoccurring themes on our programme is an emphasis on providing practise integrated with theory, which adds greater understanding and brings deeper context to study. Offering unique company projects and other professional development opportunities enables our students to stand out from the crowd.

“The opportunity with BAE Systems presented our students with the chance to undertake real professional practice to support business.”

LUMS MSc Management alumnus Naeem Hasan Desai led the project for BAE Systems, choosing Lianna Price as the eventual winner.

“It was brilliant to see how many students submitted innovative, high-calibre responses, making it difficult to choose a winner,” said BAE Systems Campus Manager Naeem (MSc Management, 2015).

“As a Lancaster alumnus, I have worked closely with Martine Dawber and the Careers Team on recruitment activities for the past five years. It is always nice to receive such a warm welcome from staff and students, and I enjoy bringing employer activities onto campus, albeit virtually this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I have built a strong, valued working relationship with LUMS. I always look forward to speaking with students, and hope we can bring more activities to campus in the future, when pandemic restrictions allow.”
