Lancaster University work-based learning programme supports future leaders

Aspiring senior business leaders from across the North West are embarking on a two-year course to enhance their career prospects and future-proof their organisations.

Apprentices on the Senior Leader Degree Apprenticeship Programme will work with Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) business experts to develop and apply strategic leadership skills in their workplace.

The programme leads to a Lancaster University Masters degree, a senior leader apprenticeship qualification. Leading professional bodies the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) both endorse the award.

The new cohort – the fourth to go through the programme – include representatives from the public, private and third sectors across the region.

Apprentices will focus their studies on areas such as innovation, entrepreneurship and organisation, key subjects for senior managers. The government apprenticeship levy enables experienced leaders to fast track to a Masters degree in a little over a year, with aspiring leaders completing the Senior Leaders programme in just 26 months.

The apprentices will take part in masterclasses, online learning and individual mentoring, all of which enable the future leaders to integrate learning into their day-to-day roles.

“Employers tell us that our popular Senior Leader Master’s Apprenticeship builds a talent pipeline by nurturing the rising stars in their organisation and delivering transformational change,” said Dr Debbie Simpson, Director of Post-Experience Programmes at Lancaster University Management School.

“Our students love the flexibility of the MSc programme, plus the combination of fresh ideas and work-integrated learning that can really boost their careers.”

Businesses or individuals interested in future programmes can attend a Senior Leader Degree Apprenticeship Information Session at Lancaster University Management School on Tuesday, October 15, or Tuesday, December 3, between 8.30am and 10.30am on both days.
