LUMS undergraduate receives first ICAS bursary

Matthew Peterson

Accounting and Finance student, Matthew Peterson, was recently awarded the first bursary as part of a new partnership between LUMS and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland Foundation (ICAS Foundation). The award from the ICAS Foundation was in addition to funding provided by Lancaster University.

The bursaries aim to support students from family backgrounds that have limited resources, who wish to attend Lancaster University but may not have the means to do so without additional financial support. The recipients of the ICAS Foundation bursary also receive mentoring through the ICAS Foundation mentoring scheme, providing them with vital skills to help them achieve their career aspirations.

Matthew said: “I found out about the bursary from an email from Lancaster University which advertised this brilliant opportunity. The application steps were clear and easy to follow, and the ICAS Foundation kept me updated throughout the process.

I am very grateful to the ICAS Foundation for giving me this opportunity; to not only financially support myself, but also gain access to career related support such as the mentoring scheme.

There are many opportunities available to me through the scheme, such as getting the chance to speak to a chartered accountant, which will help me to develop a first-hand insight into the profession. This is a great way to prepare me for the world of work and life after university. “

We would like to congratulate Matthew on this brilliant award and we wish him all the best with his studies. To find out more, please visit the ICAS Foundation Bursary.

Applications for 2020 awards are open from 1st March 2020 to 31st May 2020 and application forms together with guidance on completing can be accessed at www.icasfoundation.org.uk
