Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) has teamed up with software and training company Timberlake Consultants to engage with a new audience for its economics knowledge.

LUMS and Timberlake have come together to co-develop short courses in data science and econometrics.

Lancaster University’s Department of Economics has played a role in developing and evaluating the content for the courses.

Professor Maurizio Zanardi, Head of Economics in LUMS, said: “We are pleased to team up with Timberlake, a global company with a record for delivering quality courses and for developing strong relationships with top researchers in the US and UK to deliver training courses.

“The courses are attended by, among others, graduate students, academics, researchers and practitioners at government agencies, financial institutions and central banks, allowing LUMS to reach new audiences.”

In total, LUMS has initially worked on seven modules to be delivered by Timberlake.

Dr Giovanni Cerulli, a researcher at the National Research Council of Italy – Research Institute on Sustainable Economic Growth, will deliver the first course, Econometrics of Program Evaluation Using Stata, between February 10 and 12, at the Work Foundation, in London.

The course provide participants with the essential tools, both theoretical and applied, for the proper use of modern micro-econometric methods for policy evaluation and causal counterfactual modelling, and covers a range of topics.

Teresa Timberlake, Director of Timberlake Consultants, said: “I am delighted Timberlake Consultants have entered into a partnership with Lancaster University Management School to co-develop and deliver short-courses in data science and econometrics.

“We are very grateful to the efforts of Interim Vice Chancellor Professor Steve Bradley and Professor Maurizio Zanardi for supporting this initiative.

“Our training activities are core to our customers both regional and international and we are very excited by the potential and opportunities this partnership will offer in terms of excellence in teaching, learning and assessment.”
