The Classification of C*-Algebras and the Toms--Winter Conjecture
In this talk, I will discus the state of the art in the classification of C*-algebras (The Elliott Programme) and my recent work with Castillejos, Tikuisis, White and Winter on the Toms--Winter conjecture, which concerns the class of C*-algebras that can be classified by Elliott's K-theoretic invariant. In particular, I will focus on the relationship between nuclear dimension, a non-commutative generalisation of the dimension of a topological space, and the Jiang--Su algebra, one of the most interesting new C*-algebras constructed in the last 20 years.
