Science and Technology success in Complete University Guide 2020

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has risen to ninth place in The Complete University Guide 2020.

The subject tables also provide an insight into the success of graduates on completion of their course, with Mathematics ranked sixth for Graduate Prospects.

The Complete University Guide’s subject tables measure Entry Standards, Research Quality, Graduate Prospects and Student Satisfaction, giving each subject area an overall national ranking.

Overall, the Faculty of Science and Technology holds five top ten subject areas nationally, with Physics & Astronomy ranked sixth, Chemical Engineering ranked seventh, Geography & Environmental Science ranked eighth, and Mathematics and Psychology both ranking ninth.

The Faculty’s other notable achievements include:

· Psychology rises 8 places to rank 9th nationally

· Chemistry soars 15 places to rank 11th nationally

· Physics & Astronomy is ranked 5th and Biological Sciences is ranked 6th, putting both subjects in the top 10 nationally for Student Satisfaction

· Chemical Engineering is ranked number 1 in the subject table for Graduate Prospects

Professor Peter Atkinson, Dean for the Faculty of Science and Technology at Lancaster University, said: “I am delighted with another successful set of outcomes for the Faculty of Science and Technology.

“It is particularly pleasing to see some of our graduate employability rankings so high, as this obviously is a key consideration for students in choosing where to study.

“The results show, once again, that Science and Technology at Lancaster is excellent in both teaching and research, and continues to be highly attractive to students.”

Dr Alexander Belton, Head of Department for Mathematics and Statistics, said: “This excellent result is testimony to the hard work of every member of the Department, both staff and student. It is gratifying to see that employers recognise the benefits and quality of our degrees."

Lancaster rises one place to rank seventh out of 131 universities in the UK, its highest ever national ranking in this table, solidifying its status as a top ten University and the North West’s leading university in the The Complete University Guide 2020 University League Tables, published Wednesday 1 May 2019.

Notable University-wide achievements include:

· Ranked 3rd nationally for Graduate Prospects

· 19 subjects are ranked in the top ten

Lancaster has also scored the highest in the region for Graduate Prospects and third highest nationally, with a score of 89.2 against the average score in the UK of 75.5.
