Lancaster Graduate receives Honorary Degree

Lancaster University Graduate Antony Burgmans, now the Chairman of Unilever N.V and Vice Chairman of Unilever Plc. has been awarded an honorary degree, Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra, the University's Chancellor, at a ceremony on 3rd December at 3pm.

After graduating from Lancaster with an MA in Marketing in 1971, Antony Burgmans joined Unilever, an international company noted for its expertise in marketing and brand management. Through an outstanding career he has managed Unilever ventures in Europe and Asia. In 1999 he became the Chairman of Unilever N.V. He led the establishment by Unilever and the World Wild Life Fund of the Marine Stewardship Council, a charity that supports environmentally sustainable fishing. His interest in Dutch art has led to him becoming Chairman of both the Mauritshuis and Bredius Museums in The Hague.
