Introduction to Teaching at Lancaster (ITL)

Support for associate teachers, in particular postgraduates and researchers who teach, is provided through the one-day Introduction to Teaching at Lancaster workshops and the Advance HE (formerly Higher Education Academy) accredited Associate Teacher Programme (ATP) [formerly Supporting Learning Programme - SLP].

You are also encouraged to take advantage of any of the Continuing Professional Development Sharing Practice opportunities, intended for all those at Lancaster involved in teaching and supporting students learning.

This one-day induction course is designed to help postgraduates, researchers and others involved in modest amounts of demonstrating or seminar teaching to address some of the basic skills and understanding they will need for their work. It assumes that participants have little or no previous teaching experience.

The day will cover:

  • Introduction to Learning and Teaching in HE
  • Teaching small groups or demonstrating in laboratories
  • Assessment issues
  • Effective Communication in the teaching context
  • Being a tutor at Lancaster University - addressing participants' own questions and concerns about teaching

Please book early as demand is always high for these workshops (see workshop dates below).
