The British Academy of Management (BAM) - the leading body for academic field of management in the UK - have created a new role of Vice Chair of Sustainability, in order to drive embedding sustainability best practice across their activities and communities.

As the role is new, it was decided that a senior and eminent Professor should be appointed until 2024 (after which it will be open to election), and Jan Bebbington agreed to take the role, which forms part of the BAM Executive.

Professor Bebbington said: "I am delighted to be working alongside BAM to further integrate sustainability thinking in their activities. Of course, we are not starting from scratch in this matter as BAM has been a champion of thinking around these issues as well as designing conferences with sustainability principles in mind. At the same time, the criticality of sustainability concerns (whether it be related to climate change, biodiversity loss or inequality) continue to accelerate and there remains much work to do. I also know that there are many BAM members who have thought deeply on these matters and I look forward to working alongside them."
