Academic Background.

I grew up in Cambridge then did my BSc in Mathematics with Spanish at the University of Manchester. I spent my third year abroad, studying maths at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. My undergraduate project was on Zipf's Law, an empirical law used to describe the distribution of words in a language.

In summer 2013, I participated in the STOR-i Summer Internship working on the project 'Evaluating the Structure of the Excitability Curve of Motor Neurons', supervised by Simon Taylor. The poster I produced during the internship is here.

Promoting Education.

My PhD is focused on using statistical and machine learning techniques in an educational environment. I have always been passionate about education and throughout my studies I have tried to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to others, whether through outreach work, voluntary tutoring or paid teaching.

In summer 2014, I spent six weeks in Central America, including a month volunteering with the education charity La Esperanza Granada in Nicaragua. For more information about the charity or to get involved please click here .

Try Bandits.

Try Bandits is an interactive website designed to give the user the chance to experiment with different strategies for the Bernoulli bandit. The user has 100 clicks to try and maximize their reward from 5 bandits with unknown reward probabilities. I built it for the STOR-i outreach program aimed at encouraging sixth form students (17 year olds) to study a mathematical subject at university.
