Abstract: I present results from an on-going ALMA study of ‘9io9’ - a gravitationally lensed hyper luminous infrared galaxy at z=2.6, discovered in the citizen science project SpaceWarps. Given its intrinsic luminosity and observed (amplified) brightness in the submm/mm (approaching 1Jy at peak), we have been conducting detailed studies of this system with ALMA to map the far-infrared thermal dust continuum as well as molecular and atomic emission lines. These observations provide clues as to the nature of the interstellar medium and conditions of star formation in an extreme system seen close to the peak epoch of galaxy evolution, and help our understanding of the processes driving the rapid assembly of massive elliptical galaxies seen at z=0.
