Under pressure: The psychology of decision-making during crises

decision making

Psychologist Dr Nicola Power looks at decision making in a free public lecture at 7pm on Wednesday 14th November.

Every autumn, the Faculty of Science and Technology presents a series of talks held at The Storey in Lancaster.

This year there are five lectures on topics ranging from dark matter in the Universe to driverless cars, self-designing software systems and the formation of the Himalayas.

Dr Power from the Department of Psychology said: “People make hundreds, if not thousands, of decisions every single day. From what clothes to put on in the morning to what time to go bed, decisions encompass almost every moment of human life.

“But what happens when decision-making goes beyond the day-to-day; when the choices you have to make can have catastrophic, even life-or-death, consequences?

“This is a daily challenge for those working in safety-critical environments – from medics through to emergency responders.

“This talk will explore the psychology of decision-making during crises, identifying what we know so far, and the important questions that remain.”

To book a place, please register using either the Eventbrite link below each lecture, or by contacting Kate Hutchinson on k.hutchinson2@lancaster.ac.uk or 01524 593952.
