‘Fox’s Pulpit’, Firbank Fell, from the side, looking towards Lonsdale

This is almost the angle from which the old people in the chapel would have seen Fox preaching ‘on top of a hill or a mountain’. It gives a better idea of the height than the traditional image. It is not exactly their view, however, because there are now several twisted trees in the way; and he may have been speaking facing in the opposite direction, and so a couple of paces to the left of the photograph. In the distance, the valley of the Lune and the way to Crosslands, the home of John Audland.
