Kendal: the Castle from across the River Kent, late autumn

The Castle belonged to the Barons of Kendal: the last to live there was Sir William Parr, father of Catherine Parr, the last wife of Henry VIII, and there is a tradition that she was born there.  It was already ruinous in Fox's time.  In 1610, Camden said, ‘As for the Castle, the ancient seat of these Lords, standing over against the towne, it runneth to decay through age and neglect’.1
