Lancaster, c. 1770

Sightlines are slightly distorted, and the sea has been moved forward to obliterate the Heysham peninsula and the lower reaches of the River Lune. Those are tall ships out in the Bay, not gas rigs. The Shire Hall has not yet been built, and the curtain wall of the Castle joins up with the Keep (right side). There does not appear to be any curtain wall between John o’Gaunt’s Gateway and the Well Tower. Green Ayre (left of the river) is still an open space.
