Pen-y-Ghent from near Gearstones

Gearstones was the inn where the cattle drovers from the north congregated, and held cattle fairs. The Gearstones Inn was notorious for the rowdy behaviour of its clients. Cam High Road, the Roman road from Bainbridge, came out there into the Ribblehead valley. From here Fox would have joined the road to Dentdale, and probably on into Garsdale by the drove road.
